Professor, the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning

the Polish Academy of Sciences

Assoc. Prof. Przemysław Śleszyński (b. 1973) is a professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Head of the Department of Urban and Population Studies). Member of the scientific and problem committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences of: Geographical Sciences PAS (scientific secretary), Demographic Sciences PAS, Migration Research PAS, for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning PAS. Member of scientific societies, including the Vice-President of the Polish Geographical Society and chairman of the Geography of Settlement and Population Commission PGS. Investigations on geography, socio-economic and spatial planning, including the spatial structures of the population and economic entities, the development of cities and regions, migration, transport geography, spatial planning, landscape aesthetics. The works are mainly Polish and its various cities and regions, including Polish and Eastern Poland. Author and co-author of more than 300 publications in this field, including about 20 monographs. Coordinator and participant of dozens grants and projects carried out for international institutions (eg. ESPON program) and the central and local public institutions (such as ministries of development, infrastructure, transport, construction, agriculture, education, science), including coordinator of the annual government reports (2005-2015) on the status and progress of planning works in municipalities. He also took part, among others, in the preparation of such documents as the Report on the spatial development of Poland (2000-2006), Study of spatial development area along the German-Polish border (2006), National Spatial Development Concept 2030 (2008), the National Strategy of Regional Development (2012) , Delimitation of Functional Urban Areas of voivodships capitals (2012), Report on economic loss and social costs of uncontrolled urbanization in Poland (2013) and many evaluation studies, mainly on transport area. The last time he was appointed to the expert of the Responsible Development Strategy of Poland in the "territorial cohesion" subject.
