The Eastern Economic Congress – Leaders of Tomorrow

An event to be held as part of the Eastern Economic Congress, 24–25 September 2015, Białystok

The EEC – Leaders of Tomorrow is an event accompanying the 2nd Eastern Economic Congress in Białystok. It is intended for upper-secondary school students from Białystok and the principal idea of the undertaking is to promote the knowledge of the economy and entrepreneurship among the youth by offering them the possibility of meeting with business practitioners and engaging in a debate with them.

The project has been initiated in Katowice during the European Economic Congress and is now being continued in Silesia. The lectures organised as part of the undertaking have already been attended by about two thousand students. The success of the project has encouraged the organisers to undertake this initiative in a new formula during the Eastern Economic Congress. The Białystok edition of the project will also involve the upper-secondary school youth, who will be invited to participate in the event.

Mission and objectives

Creativity, zeal and a fresh look on reality are the unquestionable strengths of young people. In order to fully utilise this potential and turn it into social capital, it is necessary to skilfully direct this force by showing the young the paths of development right at the threshold of adulthood. The aim of the meeting of the youth with entrepreneurs and successful people is to encourage the students to make an informed choice of their career paths, thus allowing them to enter the difficult labour market responsibly.

As far as the context of the leading subject areas of the 2nd edition of the Eastern Economic Congress is concerned – i.e. the development potential of Eastern Poland, together with its specific character and problems, as well as the political and economic relations between Eastern Europe, Poland and the European Union – the turn towards the youth gives us a clear signal that not only their potential and visions, but also their requirements will soon define the socio-economic reality of both the region and the country anew. Hence, there is a strong need for building a sense of social and economic responsibility among the youth for the city, the region and the country they live in.

By including school-age youth in the programme of the Eastern Economic Congress, the organisers are pointing out the necessity of expanding the business education offer for the young and the schooling of the leaders of tomorrow who will soon become a new voice in the public debate.

Formula

The event combines the features of a lecture, a thematic session and a free conversation between the invited guests and the students.

Part 1 Lectures to be delivered by the Speakers

Part 2 Thematic session

The topics to be raised during the meeting will revolve around the place of Eastern Poland in Europe and worldwide, as well as around the region’s influence on the economic development of the entire country. We intend to invite outstanding entrepreneurs and highly experienced business practitioners, thus allowing them to conduct the meeting with the youth in an inspiring way. The works on the agenda of the meeting and the list of guests are currently underway.
